The other night I heard the words I had always hoped to hear as a little girl, "You've turned out to be a beautiful woman - and SO STRONG! I'm really proud of you honey. You've done really well."
Wow.
It never occurred to me how I might feel upon hearing what I had always needed and wanted as a little one. I was awe struck for a moment...for the rest of the night.
I really came to understand the meaning of family that night as I pondered her words and our relationship through my life. It affirmed something I have always known instinctively: you don't have to share genetic code to be related.

I am a creature of the evening by nature. As a little girl I would sit at the top of the stairs and watch Dallas from a distance, silently creeping back beyond view when the commercials came on.
This morning I woke early (6:50am) and got myself into the morning air (after some Tai Chi and coffee). The morning light is so beautiful. It offers an incentive to throw off the covers more often. Once I am in the morning, I love it.
